A polo horse has a great role in all games, much of the result depends on it’s readiness.
This is why the preparation, training, diet, among other factors are very important for their good performance.
First of all, one of the most important things in the preparation of the polo horse is their adaptation to the ball, since, in the game it passes very close to their heads, they must not be scared.
After this, the relationship between the horse and the polo player is worked on, they must have a strong synergy in the game.
To be a good polo horse, the animal must maintain its physical condition like any athlete. For this, they work very hard every day to maintain a musculoskeletal condition compatible with the sport and its demand, since polo is played by chukkers or times, which last ten minutes, in which the horses are demanded to the maximum.
To be prepared, a polo horse undergoes daily muscular work for 30 to 45 minutes and then takes a walk of at least 1 hour to relax his muscles.
In turn, just like high-performance athletes, specific vitamins are administered to preserve their muscular condition, massages and high-tech procedures are performed.
Regarding its diet, the polo horse eats grass, alfalfa and oat concentrates that are formulated according to the nutritional requirements of each species.
The food depends on the level at which the horse plays, feeding between a horse with a high trajectory and one that is just a beginner is very different.
On the other hand, these animals begin to play polo at around 3 years old, this sport needs a mature horse. In competition, a horse can be up to 18 years old.
In polo, the player and the horse must be good athletes, it doesn’t help to have an excellent horse with a person who does not have athletic conditions, or vice versa. It is the combination of both that achieves success in this sport, and not only in athletic matters, but also the emotional relationship.
